Fit Check: Trying on your new clogs

Congrats! Your new clogs are here!

First of all, thank you for ordering a pair of BRYR clogs! Whether this is your first pair of wood clogs or you've been rocking them for years, we thought it would be helpful to answer some of your frequently asked questions. 

Clogs Feel Different- and that's a good thing.

If you're trying clogs on for the first time you might notice that they feel different than a soft-soled shoe. And that's by design. Rigid soled shoes- like clogs- have many benefits. They reduce fatigue, and wear and tear on your joints.  When walking in rigid-soled shoes, you'll notice that the sole doesn't bend. Instead, the shape of the sole is engineered to roll with your step. This can feel different at first. If clogs are new to you, we recommend wearing them around the house for a bit to see if you like the way your feet feel. At the end of the day, you feet might just feel less tired! (It's not magic, it's science!) 

How do know if you got the right size.

Getting the right size is very important, and there are a couple of factors to take into account. Your foot should never be hanging over the back edge of the clog. Your foot can be anywhere from hitting right up against the back of the clog to about 1/2" from the back edge. Within that range they should feel comfortable to wear. It's very common to have each of your foot to have different lengths, so you always want to with the size of your longer foot. 

Everyone's feet are different- especially when it comes to width and volume. With clogs, the volume of your foot often matters more than the width. And by that we mean the diameter around your arch. When you put your clogs on, you want to be able to go all the way in. If you are not able to go all the way in, you'll either want to size up, or pick a more adjustable style. 

If you have low-volume or narrow feet, you might experience your toes hitting up against the end of the clog. That's because your arch isn't holding your foot in place. If this doesn't feel good, you might want to go with a style with more adjustability, or size down. With some styles, like the Loaf or Lila, you can fit an insert in the ball area to help fill the space.

How is the Loaf meant to fit? 

We designed the new loaf to be a more relaxed fit, so you can wear it with socks or barefoot. You might notice that there is room around your arch, and that's okay. You can have up to a finger's width at the arch and 1/2" at the back and still walk comfortably in the clogs. If you have more than that, you might want to size down. 

If you are fitting very snugly and you want to be able to wear them with thick socks, we would recommend you size up. That way, your clogs will be more versatile. 

Will the leather stretch?

Our leather is very high quality and we choose it for our clogs because it has the natural ability to mold to your feet without bagging out. The nubuck clogs start out a little softer. The full grain clogs, like the motoblack, whiskey, oxblood, and coffee, start out a little stiffer, but once you've worn them for a week or so they will start to mold to the shape of your feet. We suggest wearing them around the house for a couple days to break them in. 

Test drive at home

If you're not sure about the fit of your clogs, we suggest 'test-driving' them for a couple hours at home. We accept returns only on clogs with no signs of wear, so stick to carpets as much as possible. 

My BRYR size isn't always the same

The length of our sizes are consistent across all our styles, however because different styles have different volumes and adjustability, you might find that, for example, you fit the size 8 in a miranda but a 9 in the Tegan. This is because of the variation in foot shape and clog style. 

Should I spray my Nubuck or Suede clogs?

Our leathers are very high quality and will hold up to a lot of wear. However, if you live in a very wet climate you might want to consider giving your nubuck or suede clogs a little extra protection. You can order care kits here.
