When I noticed Izzy's wedding photos on instagram, I couldn't stop myself from asking her to be part of our Bridal series. (It's not often you find another queer woman with your same uncommon name!!!). We caught up about their BIG DAY, what made if feels special, advice they'd give to other future brides, and (of course!) what Bryr's they decided to get hitched in!
Your names: Tess & Izzy
Your pronouns: both she/her
Where do you live? West Virginia
What you each do: Izzy works for a tech start up that utilizes drone technology for earthworks/construction and Tess works in financial tech
Tell us about your wedding and how you made it feel special and reflect you as a couple.
We had our wedding at a family property during late fall. We wanted to have a beautiful outdoor ceremony followed by a farm party. Tess's family is local and spent a lot of time preparing the property months in advance including salvaging material for a bar and carving out a path through the woods where we set up lights and seating for a magical forest vibe. We also grew most of the flowers we used ourselves on the property and then our friends helped us arrange all the bouquets for the tables, it felt really special to harvest our garden and use all the cuttings for the wedding. Our maids of honor gave really heartfelt and hilarious speeches that had everyone in tears from laughing (see pic) and we felt so loved that day. We didn't allow kids except for Tess's 2 year old niece who was hilariously angry the whole time.
Where did you have your wedding?
Tess' sister has a 10 acre farm called Cottage Hall near us in WV, we knew we wanted to get married there as soon as we got engaged
What advice would you give other future brides for making their wedding fun and stress free?
The best piece of advice we can give, especially if you are having the wedding at a family property and not a venue, is to hire a "day of" wedding coordinator. Even though we planned everything ourselves, our coordinator made sure everything went smoothly. She coordinated with all the vendors and helped us create a schedule and kept everything moving!
Give yourself time to enjoy the day! We took our bridal party photos and some of our main photos before the ceremony, this really freed up time so we could enjoy our cocktail hour and dinner and really hang out with everyone!
You chose each close to wear bryr clogs on your wedding day. Which styles did you choose and why did you pick them?
Tess wore the Zoe platform in agave. I chose this style because I didn't want a traditional high heel but still wanted to look formal. I also wanted something comfortable that I could wear again.
Izzy wore the Miranda Peep Toe, High heel in Fennel. These shoes were the first pair of Bryr clogs I ever purchased back in 2020 and I was instantly obsessed, they are still my favorite pair of clogs. I chose them because I wanted a fun pop of color with my dress and I knew they would be comfortable all night especially outside in the grass.
Anything else you want to share?
One of our favorite parts of the day was when we showcased a video with our parents' wedding videos on it. We converted their original tapes to digital and put together a video compilation and projected it on the barn during the reception. It was really special because a lot of people who were at our parents' wedding were also at our wedding. It was also the first time Izzy's parents had even watched the footage from their wedding! It was a really special and sentimental way to honor our parents as well <3
