We got together with French-born, San Diego-based wedding dress designer Christain Sfez, and asked her what advice she'd give to future brides.
Here's what she shared...
Your name: Christina Sfez
Your pronouns: She/her
Your company and when you started it?: My brand is Christina Sfez, I launched it in 2012 in France and open my first shop in California in 2018.
Silvie is wearing the Sylive in bone.
Can you tell me a little about how you became a wedding dress designer?
I always wanted to be a fashion designer since I was 8. I studied design in France, and at the age of 21 I created my own ready to wear brand. It was challenging and fun. I closed after 8 years. Growing up in the same time as my brand, I realized that fashion and trends wasn’t what I love. I love fabrics and designing clothes with it, starting with a flat piece of fabric to bring into life in 3D, that makes you happy and feels you. My best friend asked me to design her own wedding dress and this is where the wedding adventure starts…
If you could give one piece of advice to future brides, what would it be?
To deeply listen to yourself. To prepare your wedding, you’ll have a lot of choices to make and a lot of opinions on your hands but in the end it is your fiance+ your day, it has to feel you, and only you. There is no more beautiful wedding but when it feels authentic.
What's the biggest mistake you see brides to be making when picking their wedding dress?
It echoes with my previous answer : Choose her dress to please other people before herself. This is why we advice to come with 3 guests maximum and always the same ones through the whole custom process. 3 guests that really knows you and won’t ask you to try all the racks, because in the end you will feel lost and won’t be able to truly see yourself.
Which comes first, the dress or the shoes?
The dress but I always talk about the shoes right after, I think it goes with the dress, it defines the whole vibe, same with jewelries.
When you attend weddings, what do you usually like to wear?
A plain silk dress and clogs
What wedding dress trends are you seeing this year?
I’m not into trends, but I would say that silk liquid satin and sleeves are something that a lot of brides are really looking this year, and I’m obsessed with it too!
